In the last few weeks of 4th class we went to the Culleenamore Kitchen Middens.

When we got to a big rusty gate we got off the bus and brought our packed lunch with us. It was really hot that day so I was glad to get off the bus. We went along a path and found that there were two horses and a goat in the field. Then we climbed over a stile and found we were on the beach.

We walked along the beach and soon were at the Kitchen Middens. It was like a huge pile of stones, sand but mostly shells. We then sat down and ate our lunch and saw lots of the local wildlife.

The shells in the Kitchen Middens were mostly oysters. We learnt about the people of the Iron Age, the Bronze Age and the Stone Age. And how they would cook the oysters over an open fire and, after eating them, throw the shells in a heap. This is how the Middens were made.
