Ransboro N.S.

This heritage project was compiled by fifth class in Ransboro N.S.

We started our project in June 2010 when we visited Knocknarea, Carrowmore and Culleenamore.

We went with our fourth class teacher Ms. Hynes and our teacher this year Mrs. Mc Nulty.

We have put together what we have learned about these places along with some of our own poems and stories.

OUR SCHOOL
Our school is called “Réalt na Maidine”. The present school building was built in 1981 amalgamating the two old schools of Knocknarea and Kilmacowen. There was no extension at the time and the school had six classrooms, a SEN/ staff room, a hall and a kitchen. There were 153 pupils.

Our new extension was built in 2001 and formally opened by the Bishop of Elphin, Reverend Christopher Jones. Today the school holds 183 pupils, has 7 classrooms and 2 SEN rooms, a library, 2 offices, a staff room and P.E hall. Our principal is Mrs. Siobhan Clarke.

It may be very surprising, but the parish of Ransboro got it’s name from a bird. Before the parish got its name, it was said that every Sunday a wren would sit on the altar after Mass. The parish was then called Wrens-Burrow. Now we call our lovely parish Ransboro.
